Shannon Lay's Summer Residency

What a deep joy it was to share three months with the art and being of Shannon Lay! Our intention with this invitation was to explore the overlap between improvisatory environmental music and her own transcendent power of songwriting. Artists like Sibylle Baier, Vashti Bunyan, Karen Dalton, and Linda Perhacs have embodied this tradition so effortlessly, and Lay herself is just the kind of songwriter who doubles as a spiritual guide, kindly and patiently directing the listener towards their own sense of inner tranquility. Her three performances, between the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden, Zorthian Ranch, and Paramount Ranch, were life-affirming tear-inducing soundtracks for art, land, and togetherness. So grateful for every moment and for the artists that she invited along on the journey: Pruno Truman, Randy Randall, and Ben Boye. ~~ Floating is a membership-supported outdoor arts series. If you're interested in seeing more gatherings like these, and beyond, we'd love for you to consider supporting our work with a seasonal membership.
