Odeya Nini's Winter Residency

Odeya Nini is an interdisciplinary vocalist and contemporary composer whose work blends experimental performance practices, textural harmony, tonal animation, and the illumination of minute sounds in works that span from chamber music to vocal ensembles and collages of musique concrète. As a solo performer, her vocal work extends beyond dimensions and expressions that we've ever witnessed, creating a sonic and physical panorama that we just want to share from the mountaintops... so that's what we quite literally did. After experimenting with a one-off performance inside of an abandoned tunnel in the Angeles Forest, we invited Odeya into our first season of residencies to both explore Los Angeles county and to challenge our friend with a spectrum of resonant environments. How could Odeya utilize the vast expanse of a scenic overlook in Glendale one month while filling the inside of a forgotten water tower in Malibu the next? How does her voice meet every occasion and through what methods? These three gatherings were a wonder, an elevation of spirit, and for our day one friends you already know this residency has resulted in one of the more prodigious relationships of our entire series. ~~ Floating is a membership-supported outdoor arts series.
